The YouKulele Book Group book at the moment is The Inner Game of Music
The book regularly gives examples of instant improvements in people's playing. So, I thought the fairest way to review the book was to test out what it says.
Part of the book discusses the Tarantella. This is an Italian dance which, apparently, was used to cure someone who had been bitten by a spider. Green tells of how finding this out changed his approach to playing it:
“Instead of concentrating on those fast shifts, flurries of notes... I allow myself to feel the panic and energy of a poisoned villager dancing as though their life depended on it.”
Recently, I've been learning the Tarantella in John King's Classical Ukulele
Version 1: http://you.kulele.net/kickapps/_Tarantella-Version-1/audio/85063/15590.html
Version 2: http://you.kulele.net/kickapps/_Tarantella-Version-2/audio/85064/15590.html
You can probably guess which is which. But which do you think sounds better?
cohomarimba, 2 years ago | Flagwell, version 2 sounded smoother and more...i don't know, classical.but i listened to version 1 first and became a bit partial to it. it was sort of...moodi er. a little slower and less spider-bit e like. more like a moody cousin of blues or something. i guess i know the answer of green's paradigm, but i'm not sure i really liked it "better"
